Before you jump into styling your home, firstly identify your target buyers. Does your property and location appeal more to professionals, investors, young families or downsizers? If your property appeals to young families, you might decide to dress up a spare room as a nursery. But if young professionals are more your market, a spare nook or room could be set up as an office. Your type of home will also determine your choice of style – a federation style home will call for a different style to a modern contemporary home or inner-city apartment.

Beaumont Tiles ‘What’s my style’ quiz1 asked customers to identify their favourite aesthetics from the top 10 global interior design trends.

Data from the survey suggests:

  • To appeal to new homebuyers, developers should opt for a Scandinavian style.
  • The top three styles chosen by 52% of the 52,000 respondents were classic traditional,Scandinavian and coastal. These styles have remained the favourites since the survey launched
    in 2017.
  • For renovations to sell, the top design category was modern.
  • While classic traditional ranked first as the most popular style within the ‘renovation to live’
    category, Scandinavian and coastal styles were also popular.
  • The least popular style was eclectic bohemian chosen by only 1%.
